I agree that it is frustrating and there are some stiff fines for making this mistake at some of my local on the water fuel docks.

So, if you tend to fill up the boat and the car at the same place, take a minute to guess-timate the angel when filling the car, and try to duplicate when the boat gets close to being full.
Hope this helps.

I have a 2010 Challenger 180 SE. It shut off the very first time I filled it, but since then, it is iffy. Now that I think about it, I might have an answer. As the whole apparatus is based on the venturi effect, I think it might come down the angle at which the nozzle goes into the tank. That is, the nozzle is too horizontal for the gas to bubble back up into the small hole which triggers the shut-off. So either the tube into the tank needs a steeper angle or the nozzle has a steeper angle.
So, if you tend to fill up the boat and the car at the same place, take a minute to guess-timate the angel when filling the car, and try to duplicate when the boat gets close to being full.
Hope this helps.
Great idea, I am going to try that when I fill up my boat next. Won't be until after baby #2 comes (9/30).
