Try changing both fuel filters. I had a similar issue once and changing the main fuel filter did not fix it. Only after changing both, including the smaller in-line fuel filter, did the problem go away. After that I have been using SEAFOAM fuel treatment and have not had the problem again since. Let us know if this helps.

when you say to change both fuel filters i pulled the tube inside the gas tank and there was nothing at the bottom...this is the only other place the schematic shows a fuel filter...the only other one is the in-line canister looking filter...i have not changed this one yet but plan to as soon as i get a day off...they say that there is one down the road from me at a merc dealer that i called earlier this week and they claimed not to have one...frustrating working or finding someone to work on this boat....everything around me is outboard and outboard only....anyways on the up side i have beef forced to learn the boat better than i ever thought i would....hopefully changing this works because the only thing next is to test fuel pressure then change the pump..i heard that it is not easy to get to....ill keep you posted
