I bought the boat yesterday. I have read through the manual twice, cover to cover. It is apparent to me that BRP is highly, safety oriented as that theme permeates the book. Then while watching their boating safety DVD which also came with the boat, I noted all of the safety and operational devices they recommend be carried with, when the boat is in use. Such things like, whistle, anchor, fire extinguisher, oar, etc., none of which came with the boat. It leaves me with a cold feeling, when neither BRP nor their authorized dealer will provide these items, nor make them available to the new boat owner for purchase.
That being said, can you advise on the recommended weight/brand/model anchor?
By the way, they did not forget to offer me the extended warranty.
Thanks,
Buckles

First off, welcome to the forum.
There are a lot of different options for the safety equipment, some of it comes to preference, some to state laws. I would recommend going here to read the requirements for your state (for example, you need flares in Ohio if you are on Lake Erie, but no where else) and even taking the test. It will save you a few bucks on insurance. If you were born after '82, then it is required.
Fire extinguishers come in different types and sizes, I bought a 2lb dry chemical extinguishers. So you will want to talk to someone about which is best for you. The same for anchors, and they are even more complicated as some are better for other river/lake bottoms. Personally I bought a 4lb Fortress aluminum fluke style anchor with chain and a 100' spool of line. It seemed the best overall after talking with the salesmen at the local marine dealer about were I will be boating.
Hope this helps.

You can buy a safety kit at most marine stores that includes all the stuff you need. I am surprised the dealer wasnt more helpful. I didnt want the big folding fluke type anchor so i opted for the big round mushroom style river anchor. It works fine in the lakes I goto. I originally went with the 8lb with 100 ft rope but found that didnt work most the time. So i upgraded to 15lb with 200 ft of rope and now it works great. Make sure to put chain on the end or the anchor wont work properly.

I know this is a month old thread, but I just saw it.
Coast Guard regulations require that you have the following on board at all times.
1. A USCG approved life jacket for everyone on board. Either Type I, II, or III. Boats longer than 16' also need at least one Type IV throwable floatation device.
2. Since you have an enclosed engine space, you are required to have at least one fire extinguisher that is USCG approved. You are also required to have a functional blower exhaust system.
3. Boats longer than 16' must have at least 3 flares that are current. Flares have an expiration date stamped on them. All boats must have flares if operating at night.
4. You should have a sound making device that can be heard at least one mile away. A whistle, air horn, or electric horn.
Some states require additional equipment, and you should check with your state.
