so one of my xp's was surging on the last ride last summer. i took it to a shop and they called yesterday and told me they were gonna clean the screens in the carbs,re-set the pop off and it looks like it needs some lines replaced and would take it to the water and test it. all for $600! i told them to clean the screens and re-set the pop off and i would take it and test it. all for 350 to $400! is cleaning the carb screens a 4 or 5 hr. job? i hope that fixes the problem.
my 96 xp

I would say it all depends on the technician doing the job on how long it should take. I would recommend calling a couple of other dealers just to get a labor quote and then go from there. Keep us posted.

gonna pick up my doo today and weather permitting i will take it out and run it and see if they fixed it. i still gotta get a new start/stop button. i cut the button off and touch the wires together to start it.

picked up the doo and put the steering console back together. charged the battery and fired it up. i got no "chirp" when i plugged in the "key".but that happens sometimes.sometimes it chirps sometimes it dont . gonna take it out to the water and see if they fixed the surging problem. they said the screens in the carbs were really plugged so ill see what happens.

ran great! now i gotta get the battery light prob fixed. will i hurt anything by running it with the battery light on? other than my battery will go dead eventually. also since the vts doesnt work on either ski i took one of the switches and spliced the wires and put it in the starter button hole! works great! now i have a beige starter button instead of red. oh well

Great news, I don't believe it will hurt to run with the battery light on.
