Hey there, i recently bought a 2007 150 speedster with 120 hrs on it, first time out and after warmed up i cruised around for 10 minutes good power and every thing sounded fine/ ran fine. brought to an idle and on trying to accelerate the 2nd started cavitating over 4000 rpm....could not bring on step so pulled the boat and am doing research on replacing wear ring... since my nearest seadoo dealer is 3 hours away im going to attempt at changing my self... any suggestions on the actual process? any other ideas what could be causing cavitation besides clogging and worn wear rings/ impeller ?

Take a look at the driveshaft side of the impeller, there is a black plastic cone that threads into the impeller itself. If that backs off, and it usually does unless you glue it, you will get horrendous cavitation.
You can try to reach through the grate and thread it back in but it may back off again in short order. You need to pull the jet pump to get at it otherwise, and you might as well put a new wear ring in while you're in there.
Pulling the pump and swapping the ring aren't difficult unless the bolts are seized, mine were so I had to use EZ-outs to get the pump bolts out. Just use the freezer trick on the wear ring once you get the pump out.

Thanks for the help, i found the problem, sucked a rock and it was hiding in between the blades..... luckily it didnt do any damage to the impeller and the wear ring had a few minor scratches nothing major...... looking at the grate... its kinda weird it has the slats as wide as they are.... i know it needs lots of water flow but still it seems like the grate will let a lot of stuff in.... just gotta be careful bringing to the beach
