Hello, I just bought a 2009 seadoo challenger 180, i live in florida and is my first boat. I could use some help in how to take care of it and what to do and what not to do so I can maximize the life of the engine and boat it self. can any one give me any tips? thanks

welcome! is the boat still under any type of warranty? If so, follow those requirements to a tee. Also, the owners manual is also a good maintenance and how-to resource.

I have a 2008 180 challenger and usesd to live in seattle so i was in salt water all the time. If you are in salt just make sure to rinse the entire boat off with fresh water every time your out. Also flush the out drive. Just a little tip, go to lowes, wal mart or some other place that has garden hose quick connects and screw one into the outdrive flush. Then all you have to do to flush is pop it on, no akward screwing into the connector. If you use it normally just change the oil yearly. If i were you i wouldn't even winterize if you live in florida, just put a little fuel stabilizer in the tank at the end of the year and disconnect the battery. Always put 91 to 93 octane in your tank and you should be fine.

Thank you guys. It was a salt water boat. The guys said he flushed it last time he ran it. About a month ago. I don't have the manuals yet he is supposed to ship them to me in a few days. So I don't even know how to flush the engine yet (noob) or where to hook up the hoseto flush it. I have warranty till 2014.

Flushing the engine after every use (even in freshwater) and rinsing it off are great pieces of advice. I always see boats at the ramp that are only a couple years old but look like they are 10+ years old as some people just don't take care of their stuff. While my boat is a bit older (2005 Challenger 180), besides a few decal nicks due to the dock my boat looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. In addition to the rinsing and flushing, I use a little bit of Sta-bil (fuel stabilizer that specifically works good with marine engines to eliminate ethanol problems) prior to filling up my tank every time. Additionally, pick up a can of silicone spray at Wal-Mart or any local auto shop and as a final step after you have washed and flushed the boat, open up the engine bay and spray down all the engine components (tubes, etc.) with the silicone spray. Salt water is extremely corrosive and the silicone spray is an awesome protectant. I have had a few mechanical issues with mine that are known flaws on my specific model of Challenger, but overall have had little to no extra costs.
