I have the same boat and was surprised by the noise also. What I eventually found that quieted the motor was one of the air intake hoses had come off the engine. It just wasn't fastened tight, but without jiggling the hose you couldn't tell it was off. Once I hooked it up I saw both a performance and noise improvement.
There are also several other posts about noise reduction here. Do a search for "loud" and/or "noise" and you will get them, but I didn't see a silver bullet to solve the problem.

Thanks for the reply I will inspect the engine and check other posts

First, it's the only real 'dry' compartment. Secondly, this bin will amplify the noise if empty. I put the esky in its place and fill the other side with towels and a food bin. Finally put a towel in the centre seat compartment. I carry this stuff when I have friends along anyway.
I have noise foam around the rear seat bins, and on the underside of the rear hatch covers. I did have more, but it made only a marginal difference. The noise from my boat is much lower than before.
Cheers
