Well I just finished up my exhaust mod on my C180. I removed the resonator and fabricated a pipe from the water box to the new Rude outlet. I have not heard it yet because the boat is all winterized but it should sound good. Take a look at the pictures, the only thing I'm worried about is water flooding but the new pipe is way above the outlet so I hope its fine. Let me know if you see any issues.

Wow, that looks great! Looking forward to hearing some sound clips.

It would seem like someone would have a check valve available for inline installation... I see your concern and would have the same...
I would love to hear that thing run clips clips!

I took some measurements and the highest point of the pipe is about 10" above water level and the outlet is just below the water level. I am not as worried as I was before I took the measurements but it will be something I will keep an eye on.
I am also working on the sound clips, it's hard to get a good clip because of the driveline noise that is there when the boat is out of the water. It does sound very throaty at idle, I think it will sound great on the water.

Im asking this question because i truely don't know. Will this do something for hp gains or is it just for sound? I have seen a few people do this and was wondering why?

I don't think any HP gains will be seen with this mod. I did it for the sound and for more room for my intake.
