My insurer initially said they would cover the cost of the grate(which happened be just under my deductible), but the damage to the impeller was normal wear and tear. The repair shop tells me that stainless steel impellers are quite durable and that the damage they see on my impeller would most likely come from it hitting a hard metal object.
After I got the claims agent and the mechanic of the repair shop to my boat and the mechanic was pointing the significant differences in the condition of the two impellers, the claims agent said that he wanted to go back to his car and look at my policy. When I got to his car, he said that he was changing the determination on my claim -- he said that he was DENYING ANY COVERAGE(EVEN FOR THE GRATE) BECAUSE THERE WAS A DESIGN OR LATENT DEFECT IN THE WEEDLESS SYSTEM!
I am going to try to attach some pictures. I took some hi-res photos, but I can't post many of them here due to the file size. I would love some opinions on whether my damaged impeller looks like the damage is normal wear and tear or not. It is very difficult for me to accept that since the other one looks so clean and show no signs of wear whatsoever, and they have lived their entire lives ~24 inches apart!
Anyway, that is my rant. Any opinions are nice, but if I could hear from a pro it would be great. Especially a professional that would be willing to give a written opinion that I might use to help fight my insurer.
