Hi [newbie ],

I recently bought a 1999 challenger 1800 twin rotax jet boat and need some advise on flushing the engines. Whilst the boat was on the trailer this was not a problem and i flushed the engines after every use. However now i have a permenant mooring in my local marina i'm not sure how often i should be taking the boat out for flushing. Or even better if there is a way of flushing the engines in situ on the water, i've been told there are products out there that allow flushing of the engines without running them?? One product mentioned to me was - http://www.superflushsales.com/. Any help???

I have never used any of those products that would allow you to flush while the boat is still in the water since we don't moor our boat. I would however think that it would be a better idea to pull the boat out of the water every 3 months or so to flush it and give the bottom a good scrub down. I think if you do this the boat will last a lot longer.

Also if you leave the boat in the water for extended times expect bisters to develop on the bottom not cheap to repair problem either.

I have owned several boats from several manufacturers and ALL have excluded osmosis from warranty. This issue is not exclusive to Sea-Doo. Most manufacturers except the high end boats do not use a barrier coat to help prevent this. That's the reason it tells you in the owners manual not to keep the boat in the water. Gelcoat is a porous coating that can absorb water and lead to blisters. Thankfully I've never had an issue with any of my Doo's but have had blisters on a few other brands.

The fact that Sea-Doo added a barrier coat to this year's boats is not an admission of a design flaw in my opinion.

That said, I would be sure to tell Sea-Doo the boat was not stored in the water EVER.
