Out on the lake this weekend and my tachometer just stopped working. I haven't even begun to troubleshoot it. Where do I start? The boat ran fabulous other than this issue.
thanks in advance for the advice/tips!

Have you checked the fuse?

I haven't had a chance to check anything yet. If it's the fuse, any idea what would have caused it to blow? Aren't blown fuses usually a sign of something else?

Not always, but that is typically the first thing I would check.

On Mercury 240EFI the tachometer gets it's signal from one of the voltage regulators. I was able to extend the wire to the other voltage regulator and fix the tachometer.

Same thing happened to my speedster. Hit a wake hard and stopped working, hit another and started to work. Now it just sits at 4000 rpm at WOT. I'm thinking mine is just a loose connection. You may want to take a look at all connetions and just check that they are fine

finally was able to poke around a bit more on this issue. I'm getting power to the connector that plugs into the back of the tach. I noticed that when I turn the key from off to on that the needle blips a bip off of zero but when running the needle doesn't move at all (just stays at zero). Is this a bad gauge?

seadoo part house and others that I've check with want $150 for a replacement tachometer!! are there other aftermarket options? that seems pretty pricey to me.

I had the same problem and it was a fried voltage regulator. This also affected the charging of the battery and we were having dead battery problems. Run the motor with a hose connected and check to see if you are getting the 14 volts at the battery and if not you most likely have a burnt regulator. Remove them both and inspect them for burnt electrical smell and replace them both if there is a problem. There maybe a recall on these so search for recalls and you may get free ones. I was able to find them cheap because they are the same but the ones I found had to be spliced in because they were not Seadoo but they were less than half the cost. I found out about the recall after the fact but did not have the bad regulators.
