August 25th - 27th I was down at the official BRP press event in beautiful Hutchinson Island, FL testing the new SeaDoo Sport Boats. They have introduced some very nice new features and products to their line-up.

All new for 2011 is the 210 SP (310hp) and 230 SP (430hp)

The 180 Challenger also has some slick improvements, as you can see they have introduced an all new redesigned helm which is a huge improvement from the previous model years. They have also introduced a new tower design that puts the tow point more in the center of the boat; this creates a much better tow for the boat and the rider. Lastly they have done away with the decals and gone to a "true" emblem.

More technology and colour choices in the Challenger family

What is the story with the Speedster 150 spec sheet not referring the engine horsepower. They are now listed as 1.5 L Injected or 1.5 L high output. Does this still mean 155hp and 255hp. There was another site I stumbled upon that has the specs listed as 155hp and 215hp for 2011 (not 255hp)??

Due to the increasing demands set by rules and regulations SeaDoo has decided to no longer publish the horsepower numbers, you will also notice the stickers have been removed from the boats in 2011. They have gone to a new naming convention for the engines which I have listed below with the corresponding horsepower ratings.

1.5 l injected - 155hp
1.5 l supercharged - 215hp
1.5 l high output - 255hp

Thanks for the quick response. Do you have any addtional information regarding your statement "increasing demands set by rules and regulations"? Demands and rules and regulations by who? Are other manufacturers also impacted by these new rules? Seems like more government bull*!*! rules.

You're welcome, I believe most of the rules and regulations come from the EPA. I would imagine this would affect other manufacturers and not just SeaDoo.

Any ideas why still only the 210 family has those nice transat seats? If only the 230 models had those too (we've been anticipating them in the 230 family and are a little disappointed now...)

btw (threads above concerning "rules and regulations"): i don't know about rules and regulations, but yamaha hasn't been publishing horsepower for quite some time (maybe for similar reasons?).

This was a very question I had regarding the transat seats on the 230, unfortunately I don't have a "good" answer other than not this year. It seemed it is something they are thinking about in years to come I just don't know how long we will have to wait for these seats on the 230.

Yes I imagine it is the same reasoning why Yamaha doesn't publish their horsepower ratings, SeaDoo is just now following suit.

Did you get a chance to see how the tower is attached to the 180 Challenger. Looks interesting and like something that could be a nice add on to a 2009 model since they are essentially the same. Hopefully SeaDoo will allow them to sell towers to other people.

I did and asked this question, but unfortunately I was told it would only still be a factory installed option because of the reinforcement that needs to take place at the mounting points.

It would be nice if Sea-Doo would allow the consumer to make the decision instead of making the assumption we are incapable of reinforcing and installing our own tower. Every other aftermarket tower company faces the same issue. Let the tower maker sell to the outside and give Sea-Doo a cut. With the right instructions, we could reinforce the attachment points as good if not better than Sea-Doo. In fact, I have seen some pretty sloppy work on some of their boats. On the flipside, I know they are just covering their asses, but loosen up a bit. Probably preaching to the choir. One last question - did they mention who makes the towers?

I don't think you are missing anything because it is the 'exact' same boat, no changes so no need for them to take any new pics.

(1) What's the top speed on the 2011 230 Challenger SE with Twin high output engines?

(2) What's optimum cruise speed and rpm's and fuel consumption?

(3) Does the stern walk-through go all the way to the carpet (without stepping on any of the upholstery?

These are not definitive answers since we have not test the boat yet and I am not aware of anyone that has done these type of test yet either but I will make my best assumptions.

(1) Around 55-58mph
(2) There is now an eCO mode that will control this optimally, I would say around 42mph but eCO mode should take the guess work out of it for you. Take a look at the spec for more details on eCO mode - http://seadoosportbo...-se-spec-sheet/

When ordering a 2011 Challenger SE with the tower option, is the original Bimini top delivered as well?
Or only the tower with its own Bimini (which seems to be smaller and higher-up placed than the original)?
Any pointers appreciated.

There are two totally different designs for the bimini tops. If you choose the Challenger SE without the tower then you will get the "larger" one since there is no tower. If you opt for the tower then you will get the one that is designed to mount to the tower.
