Was out in the delaware river last week, got something stuck in the intake of the left engine of our 230 challenger. We started to limp back in at no wake speed on both engines until the left began to overheat. we immediately cut the left engine and journeyed home on the right. the next day we did find a piece of plastic wedged in there. We removed debris and put the boat in the water, both engines were firing and there were no engine warnings or over heating but it is still rattling like there is something in there. When I brought it back into the marina the dock hand took a look and said that we may have fried our impellar. My real question is would the engine fire and not throw a check engine light if the impellar was damaged or is it more likely that there is just another little rascal hiding behind something? Your thoughts?
How easy is it to fry your impellar?

It is not likely you would get a check engine light for a damaged impeller. It could be that you still have something stuck in there that is causing the problem, only real way to find out is take the grate off and see what it looks like in there. This will also give you the opportunity to check the condition of the impeller.

I just finished pulling a rock out of mine that managed to get thru the impeller and wedge in grate behind it. When its on trailer, take a flashlight and look into business end of the jet. Betcha something is still in there.
