I wouldn't think so, the key to steering these boats at low speeds is they need some "light" throttle. It would be very difficult to steer at idle, typically you can't at all unless you just have the boat in "forward" giving it no gas - this would allow you to have some steering capabilities but not much.

My speedster picks up the RPM's when you are in neutral when you go full lock to the left and right. Helps a lot with docking.

I know this is an old thread, but did rowland ever get this fixed? Mine 02 Utopia 205 does the exact same thing... works to left, nothing to the right.

Hello,
My Utopia also picks up idle to the left but not to the right. Did you ever get this figured out?

Two years ago when I got my 2001 185 the system was defective. I found that it did not make that much difference to the control of the boat with or with out it this year I removed th system completely no problem. If you want to fix the issue then take off the housing and see if the magnets line up with the switch and are close enough to activate the switch also check the wireing at the switch. After I took mine out I found the wire had broken due to corrosion and that was the problem. Good Luck Shasam

Look at the back of the steering wheel, there are some contacts that might of gotten bent or wire broke.
You can see the back by removing the seat back on the front of console.
