Hey I could really use some help! I just bought a used 97 challenger 1800. Within 15 minutes one of the engines blew (bad Rave Valve). The guy went good on it putting a different engine in it and told me to look up Rave Valves that have a metal disc and nut on top instead of plastic as they are prown to melting and breaking and ultimately ruining an engine. He also said he was done helping me, well I got the boat back and within about 2 hours both of the rave valves on the "new" engine he gave me have gone. One with a bad seal and the other one the plastic disc etc was destroyed like the last one, luckly we were able to catch it in time. Does anyone out there know where to get these high performance less likely to fail Rave Valves?
Thanks Adam

Hi Adam!!
I had the same problem on my 98 1800 challenger, the problem is that threre is too much cleareance betwen the valves and the housings and the exhaust gases are going up the housings melting the valve caps. take the valves appart and inspect the shafts looking for wear. in my case I ended
buying all four valves and housings and the billet aluminun caps to fix the problem, changing the caps only is not going to solve the problem as the gases will keep damaging the seals and oil will keep going out from it. also changing the valves and not the housings will not solve the problem as the housings will have too much clearance due to age, it happened to me, I changed the caps first then the valves and finally ended changing the housings to solve the problem. expensive but its the only way to end the problem.
hope this helps
