hello all...this forum has answered so many of my questions so for that i thank all...I took the boat out for the 3rd time yesterday and i was waiting for my girlfriend to put my trailer in the water and i heard and loud crunch and boat exhasut sounded funny..almost like i sucked something into the grate..well P0 code flased and exhaust temp light flashed. So at the point i know i sucked something up so i get a rope and pull it onto my trailer and get it home. I put the boat in my garage and got under the boat to see what went into the impeller. Well it was a stick and jammed the impeller from moving. i couldnt get my arm in there to grap it so i was like there is only 4 bolts holding the grate on so i removed 3 10mm bolts then on to the 13mm bolt it moved 5 turns then got tight..i have delt with lock tite before so i would turn till it got tight then turn 1/4 turn the back till it was loose well instead of searching here i broke bolt off...So now what do i need to remove to get the the nut under the motor? If i easy out it or use left hand drill bits they wont work with that nut on there......sorry for being a noob and not searching before i tried to remove something that looked very easy

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but it happens to the best of us from time to time. We sucked up a baseball cap years ago, luckily we were able to pull it back out without having to remove the grate. I would suggest trying to use a bolt extractor, http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B001A4CWHO.

yes kevin ve several differnt styles of extractors... but you have to get to the nut on the underside of the motor...I fixed it today by removing intake piping and got to the nut while standing on my head..and the nut had tons on silicone on it so i had to dig it out the i could get a 13mm wrench on it while a buddy used the extractor it worked pretty well but it is a horrible design by seadoo, THe intake grate should be easy accesible since jet boat sucks things up...but im thinking of putting a stud threw the hull with a nut and nut the bottom of the grate so it will come off easy as long as i can glue or jb weld the nut tthe hull of boat on the inside

yes so am I>>>>it was a pain to get the broken bolt out but its fixed now...what i was thinking was installing a 40-50 mm stud with nut on top under motor then jb weld and silicon it to the boat (since i cant touch it with my hand to fiberglassthe nut to the hull) then using a nut on the other side so that you can get the grate off with ease buy just removing 3 10mm bolts and one nut..

im glad i sucked up the stick at idle of i would have messed up the wear ring for sure and possibly impeller

You cant really use an extractor because there is a lock nut inside the hull under the engine where it is almost impossible to access with supercharged engines. So you have to remove the lock nut, or else try drilling out the whole bolt and using a thread chaser or heli coil to repair the threads.

I tried to slot the bolt and turn it INTO the hull no luck the slot broke

Runnin without grate now (which I did for 10 years with my 95 Speedster no probalems)

yes it is very very stupid design but you can get to the nut under motor it is dificult but it can be done since i did it...you have to dig silicon off of the nut to put a wrnech on it the easy out the borken bolt..

my new design hasnt been down yet since im still using the boat but it will work for sure..just need a 8.x1.25 stud 45-50mm long glue or silicon it in and install a nut on top and a lock washer and nut on bottom of grate done

Well, I dug out the silicon and removed the locknut from under the motor. Now the leftover bolt (stud) will not move at all. Is there something else (metal plate) embedded in the fiberglass that the bolt is grabbing or maybe something JB weld-like? There's no way the silicon is holding it there as rigidly as it is. Plus, there's no meat to grab from the outside which makes it impossible to extract it from under the boat.

How many others run without a grate?

Just happened to me last weekend. It's under warranty... Think there's any shot at getting this covered by the dealer?

It is worth taking it to your dealer to see what they say, doesn't hurt to try. Keep us posted.
