The steering on my 1999 Challenger 1800 is beginning to get stiff. Is there a way to lubricate the cable?

The steering cables most likely need to be adjusted or replaced, this should alleviate the tension.

Tnis should point you in the right direction - it is the steering cable adjustment section from the mercury manual.

My steering wheel turns nice and easy when the boat is on the trailer... but when I get up to speed in the water, the steering is stiff and harder to the right than the left
I'm thinking maybe its because one of my wear rings have seen better days.
However, I was reading through the shop manual and saw that there is a section on lubing the steering cables. Might want to try this.
