OK, Second time out. Had a brain fart. Got boat in water, Lake Tarpon, messed around, parked car etc. Started up, and, gone. HMMMM not running good, no power, stalling... UH OH I FORGOT THE DRAIN PLUG!!!!!! Uh dear...WE ARE SINKING!!!!
OK got towed back. Thanks. Got on trailer. Both engines swamped. Got home, pulled spark plugs. really wet. OK, my question is. Now what? Am I totally screwed? I went over budget just getting this boat because it looked to be in good shape. What am I looking at to get it running and could I do it myself? I dont want to cause more damage. Starboard turns over, port not so much. Yea I had to try it. Thats my long story short, probably need a good mechanic in Zephyrhills, FL.
Thanks
Tim

I can't tell what kind of boat you have, but if it's an older two-stroke pull the plugs and crank it until most of the water is out. Then put the plugs back in and get it started now! The worst thing you can do is let it sit with water in the engine. If its a four-stroke you will need to start by dong an oil change and then get it running and do another oil change. Might have to change the oil three or four times to make sure there is no water in the oil.
Just remember not to run the engines for more than ten minuets on the hose, and start the engine first, not the water.

Thanks. I did take the plugs out and shoot the water out but with the carbs full of water didnt want to start it. Found a mechanic and will be taking it there later. Needed a good tune up anyway...

You need to get it done as fast as possible. There will still be moisture sitting in the crankcase (not to mention the carbs) and once rust forms on any of the bearing surfaces the life span of the engines will be severely shortened (or ruined). Time is your enemy on this.

Well worked out ok. Found a leak throwing water out and got that repaired. So $300 later we'll pick her up tomorrow and take to Seminole boat ramp. I'm gonna put in the plug before I leave the mechanic. If ya need a mech in Largo I might have one now.
