This should be interesting........  can't wait to see the gas consumption on the 200 because I know it's not good on the 160!!!

I recieved an email from Bombardier today. Although they do not have graphs (or at least claim they do not exist), they provided me with one figure. At wide open throttle (around 7200-7300 RPM) the Speedster 200 (Twin Rotax) will consume about 41 Litres per hour (about 11 US Gallons)!!!

I have no idea what test conditions were wrt current, wind, temp, and payload, but from other readings, these tests are normally attempted in still water on nice days to minimize these variables. I also suspect from an advertising perspective, they had the boat almost empty in order to keep the values as low as possible. Even so, I am glad they provided me with this info. It would be nice if more manufacturers would provide this kind of data, but on a graphical format to allow some reader calculations on range, fuel, time, speed, etc.

Obviously, even dropping the throttle a bit should help out on the fuel consumption. I suspect I will probably be looking more at the Utopia boats now. Although a bit slower, they should be a lot easier on the fuel.

On the chance I find some more info, I'll certainly post it here, as this site is obviously focused on everything about the Bombardier products.

I am interested in the s200 as well , One quick question on fuel consumption on the new S200 you got from Bombardier was the 41 litters for both engines or is that what each engine will use at WOT? AS it would be great if that was for both engines together , but I have a feeling that might be per engine , so it would be closer to 82 litter or 22 American gph.

As I have a Speedster 16 right now year 2002 240efi, and I installed an mercury smart craft gauge and one of the things it gives you as you are bombing around is how many gph you are using (In American gallons) any how the 240 efi use about 24 gallons an hour at WOT. and at cruising speed it is about 7 GPH and you are doing just under 30mph.

So if the new S200 only uses 11gph for both engines that is great and if that is for each engine it is still less than the 240 At WOT!

Ouch! I hadn't thought of that being for only one engine, and I suspect you are right!!! If it is using about 80 L/hr, I suspect it will be off my list unless gas drops a lot (it is hitting over 80cents/litre now). I am near Fredericton, NB, with a river that runs for about 100 km towards the ocean, and (if I put the boat in above the dam) another 50-100km upstream, although I've never really checked the upstream side out. There is also another river that joins it at the marina, that I can go up at least 15-20 km before it gets shallow.

Best of all, I live about 1km from the marina, so I can drive/bike/jog there in about five minutes after work. It will cost me about $600 for a 20' berth for the summer, but I figure it is worth saving the hassle of trying to unload/load a boat by myself on a public dock everytime I want to use it. This way, I can use it a lot more!I

The only problem with the St John river is that it is great for long cruises, but not as great for just horsing around (It's only about 300-400m wide in most places).

I'm actually in Ontario for a few weeks now, and that is why I am looking for one out here (No PST!!!).

I'm currently in the Kingston area dreaming what it would be like to see the 1000 islands and the St Lawrence in the summer. Simply amazing territory and lakes around here. I've talked to two Seadoo dealers, and without even starting to dicker, their advertised price had a 1K different (same options, freight, etc).

I am on an intense course right now with classes from 0700-2000 and most wknds but it will end on 26 Mar. I will then take a week or two off to visit relatives in London/Leamington and check out more dealers (incl Seadoo). Hopefully I will decide what I will buy (and have it hooked up to my truck) by then; if not, I have some shopping to do back home!

Boats are expensive thats for sure. My comment is that if I am going to spend a significant amount of money then I want to get the full potential out of what I am buying!! Just because you buy a BMW or whatever that can DOO 250km/hr....are you going to do it, probably not! Are you allowed to...NOT. Buy a Jetboat and you can go as fast as you want!!! As long as you not an idiot of course.

London area huh? perfect...look up a place called Lockharts Odyssey in Courtland Ontario 15-20min from London. Ask for Melissa, she is very cool! This place is very professional and will look after everything! They should be getting ready to switch their stock from Winter to Summer, if not already.

I had the 2002 Utopia 185. I sold it last fall. I had no problems and being in that close to 50 year old range, I loved the Full Windshield... The one and only complaint that I had with the Utopia, was the 2 stroke engine smoke when cruising slow down rivers and channels.. It's enough to make you sick if the wind was blowing just right.. Unfortunately, that is a 2 stroke trait...

I race and build Pro-Stock Ski-Doo Snowmobiles, so you would think I would be used to it... But I have found that 2 Stroke smell is a lot easier to cope with in the Cold Winter Weather, than it is in the Hot Summer Air... There is something to this statement, but I am not sure what that is...

The reason for me switching to the Speedster 200 this year, was simply to get away from the 2 Stroke Fog.. I would like to see a 4 Stroke in the Utopia 205! That would be a great boat in my opinion... But again, I have learned to Appreciate the Full Windshield when the Cool Evening Air moves in on the lake!

In the mean time, I will carry a extra sweatshirt in the boat and deal with the less wind protection and have a blast with the new Speedster 200.... I even talked to my dealer about fitting the new Twin Engines with Intercooled Superchargers that are on the new PWC... He says it can be done and it would up the HP to 420 HP! Can you imagine 420 in the Speedster?

I am located in Northern Michigan, But looking to relocate in Florida!

I recently purchased a speedster 200. I owned a 2001 challenger 1800. I had nothing but problems with my other seadoo boat. The 240 mercury would not start after it was hot, it hopped or porpused all the time, even after installing lenco trim tabs. The 200 has had none of above problems, although only owned for a few months,very happy sofar. The gas mileage seems to be better. The only downfall is the high price. If anybody has any questions glad to try to answer.

Hi, I've got an 03 Speedster. My only complaint about the boat is that my fuel gage reads about a half a tank off. Your boat has the same fuel tank assembly as mine. How does your gauge read? I've had the boat in twice. They have replaced the sending unit and are now replacing the gauge this week. The people at sea-doo are of no help. They say if this doesn't fix the problem they don't know what to do.

I also have a 2003 Speedster but no problems at all... Unless you consider coming out of the hole shot at Mach1 a problem???

Seriously, I have not had any issues with my gas gauge. Did they change the actual gauge on the dash?

Where exactly were the hulls breaking?

You're right, I haven't had any trouble with my hull cracking- only 'spyder' cracks as Seadoo puts it, in my rear deck lid. That comes from folks walking on it around the edges. I have recently identified a small section of rotting glas- around the port intake tunnel in the engine bay. It is a raw, top coat of glas laid over a laminar plate (the ride plate screws go thru the hull, thru this plate, and out thru this top coat. I'm sure that water played a major role in rotting this glas. It is thin to begin with, and I'm guessing that water leaked thru those screws and got under it. At any rate, it's not bad, and it's nothing to do with structural integrity. I plan on re-laying a couple sheet of glas over the area soon to keep the damage from extending. I'll take a photo or 2 (maybe) so you can see it.

I wish the UK fuel prices were 80c its currently £1 per litre where I fill up.
I have a Challenger 1800 with the twin 2 stroke so I think the S200 will consume more fuel but I wont have the oil costs (£11 per litre).

Also at the current exchange rate I may import has anyone had experience with this?
Any info would be appreciated.

It's been a while since I owned my 97 Speedster, but the gas use is not that different with my '05 S200 (the S200 does use a bit more). I just got back from a week at the lake and used about 60 gallons of fuel. I used to use around 50 gallons on my 97 over the same period a few years ago (we go to the lake for two weeks during the summer). I think the numbers at boat-test.com are good for the S200 (around 3MPG in most cases).

I see this thread is old, but the 160's (I am only talking about the older twins here) and the 200 are very different boats. I don't think anyone has ever got a 160 over 54MPH with a GPS (don't even look at reports of folks doing over 55 with the speedo), my S200 with 310HP does 54MPH GPS every time. There is zero smoke with my S200, I could never say that with my 160! I can and have seated 5 adults and two kids in my S200 and it still performed great (pulled a 180lb slolom skiier with that load). I never got my 97 Speedster over 53MPH on GPS.

The S200 will never turn like the 160's. The hulls on most of the older twins are very shallow and "skip" over the water on hard turns. This is a blast. The S200 will stick to the water ever during very sharp turns. It's still fun to turn hard, but it will not skip or spin like the 160's will. I was glad to give this up for more room and a much dryer ride in chop (we ocean boat quite a bit). My memory is not so hot when going back to hole shot with the '97, but the S200 is excellent in this regard. I pulled two tubes and really could not see a difference between two and one (with 160lb passengers in each tube).

I think the power and economy of the S200 is hard to beat. It has turned out to be nearly the perfect boat for us. I thought really hard about going with the twin 185HP engins rather than the 155HP engines, but while the extra power would be nice, gas prices are high enough and the 155hp engines provide enough power to keep me happy.
