when greasing the pto do i need to use rotax synthetic or can i just use a lithium based grease? and are there any other grease fittings on a 96 speedster that i need to know about

Any good marine grease will work. 2 grease fittings only- one on each PTO.
1997 Seadoo XP 800 (sorry, at least it is a DOO!!!)

Is there any cheaper/easier-to-find substitute for Bombardier lube?

The next best thing is probably Pennzoil 100% synthetic marine grease, sold at most WalMarts.

Is this the stuff you're supposed to spray into the air cleaner cover hole? What's that for, anyway?

Two different products. One is for greasing driveshaft/PTO /impeller splines, and the other is a spray product for protecting the engine and related components from corrosion.
