i have a 2000 speedster 240, it will not start after it is warm, it has to sit for up to 30 minutes before it will start, the engine turns over but no start. i have had it to different dealers in souther ontario canada but with no luck, they did however change the ign. wire harness as suggested by merc. if you are aware of any fuel/ign. problems with this model please let me know. also at idle the boat wants to travel, can this be easily adjusted

I've read frequent posts about this problem on the big board...especially with the 2000 model. I don't think anyone has come up with a definitive answer as to the problem. It has yet to happen to me...starts first time, every time (touch wood)...but I get antsy every time I stop, expecting it to happen.we tried all of the above thru a dealer under warranty, there was various problems, clicking while attempting to start, (at starter), starter was checked out found to be ok, harness was changed because dealer was told to by merc. problem still exsists,
As for the "travelling", just move the FNR lever back a bit from neutral (I'm assuming you're travelling forward, not backward). Eventually, you'll find that "sweet spot" that is the true neutral position.

Mercury dealer/authorized repair facility or a Seadoo dealer? Could make all the difference in the world as far as diagnosis is concerned.we tried all of the above thru a dealer under warranty

had the boat out over the weekend on lake ontario by grimbsey. it was a little choppey 1 to 2 foot , took the boat under the QEW into a sheltered bay, ran it hard for a hour or so, took it back to the marina before shutting it down. when i attempted to start it , the engine hesitated a second or two then caught and ran ok. i also heard the fuel pump turn on when the key was turned to run, found if i let the pump run till it stopped then attempted to start the engine would start every time. i looked in the seadoo operator manual that came with this boat for start instructions, but could only find refer to the m2 manual for anything to do with the engine. no other manual came with the boat, dealer said thar he nows of no other manual. my question is, when starting do you have to prime the fuel system each time or should there be a check valve in the system, and what is a m2 manual. thanksMercury dealer/authorized repair facility or a Seadoo dealer? I think maybe your boat has a lift pump and a main fuel pump. Since your boat is a 240 EFI, and a 2002 model, the manual listed in the links section on our main page is the Mercury manual for your year and model engine. It is in .pdf format, and has all the info for your engine. It has a detailed listing for the fuel system on your Merc, as well as troubleshooting info.... here is that link : http://seadoosportbo.../merc/cover.pdf

found solution to hard starting, turned key on and let fuel pump prime before starting engine, cold or hot worked every time. i could not find in any manual starting procdure. does everyone start this way or is my fuel pump losing its prime after shutting downFind your engine serial number, and compare it to the serials listed on the manual cover. It may be an earlier model or later model. I'm afraid I won't be of much, if any help on the Mercs.... or Rotax for that matter....
