I purchased an '09 180 Challenger SE, 5 weeks ago and have had it back to the dealer 2 times already to get weeds out of the impeller. The Lake I am on is Gull Lake, Alberta, Canada. It is shallow in places (as are a lot of the lakes around here), and I am wondering if anyone has any advise on how to prevent this from happening? The first time it happened there were floating weeds in the marina and I thought I would have trouble.... however the second time it occured the lake was clear. Any thoughts from any one? Can I easily dissasemble the intake and jet to clean this myself? Have I bought the wrong boat?

It sounds like you boat in a real weedy area. Just how clogged is the pump getting? Is it so bad that you cannot clear it yourself?
I cannot boat in the Gulf of mexico as the eel grass gets really bad and will clog a jet boat before you even get away from the boat ramp. I still to the cleaner lakes and rivers.
Unfortunately there isnt much in the way of intake grates and the like that will solve this issue for you. Your gonna have to find a way to avoid the bad weeds and maybe experiment with ways to clear the clog while on the water. Some guys have effective techniques that work for them such as putting the boat in reverse and turning the wheel back a forth to try and flush away clogs. Sometimes just shutting a boat off will permit the clog to float off the intake grate.

Thanks for the input. Do you know of anyone who has attached a trolling motor to a Seadoo Boat to get out past the shallow weed areas? I was thinking of looking into this.
