Hi - I'm new to this forum and new to Sea Doo Boats. I purchased a 1997 Sea Doo Challenger 1800 from a friend last year and we've had many great days on the water. Last Saturday we were on the lake at full throttle and the boat shut off like I pulled the lanyard off the post... but I had not. Once the boat stopped I left the key on the post and tried to restart. All I got was the engines attempting to start but never tunred over. I still had power to all other accesories except the depth finder which was dead no matter what. I took the key off and put it back on... no beeps, nothing. I checked fuses - okay.
I took the boat to the dealer yet I'd like to be educated on what to expect. I've read that with these symptoms it seems either the DESS post or the MPEM. I"ve also read that the cost delta between these two is quite a bit. Does anyone have experience with this symptom set with the result being the post? Obviously I'm hoping for the cheaper option and not sure I'd pay the nearly $2000 for a new MPEM when I only paid $4k for the boat! Any wisdom to a newbie would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't run into this type of issue before, has the dealer provided you with anymore information yet?
