Well, I have to say, driving the boat in saltwater is slightly different...Harsher waves, stuff got clogged in the intake grates alot more, etc...When I was chopping up the bay in my doo, I hit a few waves that just about broke my back! I am sure continued abuse like this could damage something, it loosened the rpm gauge that doesnt work and it fell back into the cluster...And sucking up pine needles and sea weed sucks bad too...I couldn't get under the boat long enough to reach anything in there and my hands were too big to get anything anyway..So what I did was putt around where everyone else was in the sand and ocassionally rev each engine up..Beached it twice, that was fun! Anyway I had alot of fun with it and only saw one other like mine by the Destin bridge this weekend...Must have been 300 boats out there anchored!

Speaking of unclogging the intake grate........I seen on a website.....I think it was MercuryPartsXpress or something like that. They had a 2 piece collapsable pole that is for unclogging the grate from inside the boat. If you could get a good picture of this, you could probably have one made up. Never really thought about this until I seen it.....Could be a useful idea.

that reminds me, when i could get under the boat, i notices on one side there was a hole in the top of the intake grate hole and what looked like a white pvc pipe going back into it, and on the other side there was the hole but no pipe? what could this be?

As far as I know, the only holes that are in the intake area are where the grate cable comes down to the grate, and the other where the driveshaft comes out to the impeller. Are you talking about the plastic shaft protectors for the driveshafts?
