I ordered a 10" marine sub from Polk. Has anybody installed a sub with any sucess? I was hoping to cut a hole and install if possible. Any ideas on where to install one? Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated. Installed grey Hydroturf at the end of last season, this will be the next upgrade.

I ordered an Alpine "free-air" 10" instead of the Polk. Don't want to mess with the box and take the chance of it not sounding good. I did go with 2- 6 1/2" Polk speakers to replace the existing clarions. I'm gonna take a chance on the clarion deck, if it doesn't sound good it will be replaced also. Anybody have any upgrades going on?

We also have a 180 Challenger but we haven't done any upgrades to our stereo system, we have been debating it though. Keep us updated on your progress.

I just finished upgrading my headunit and andding a remote to my Challenger; no sub though; don't think i could fit it anywhere in my 14.5 ft boat. Will you be running a second battery just for the system? I upgraded my stero on my pontoon boat and have been wanting to add a sub but afraid that the single battery won't be able to handle it

I will be adding another battery dedicated to the stereo, don't wan't to take any chances on the lake. After hauling kids(and grown kids) around we usually anchor off in a cove and float around with our favorite beverage and listen to music. Can't wait to get it all installed!

The only place i have ever seen a sub installed on a c180 is on the port side near the passenger seats legs. The amp went in the glove box.

I have this planned as well. How big of an amp are you planning? Are you going to run just the sub or all three speakers off of the amp?

Where are you mounting the extra battery? Is it going to be on a switch?

I ended up putting the sub there also, was gonna put it on the side of the glove box in the walkway. Instead, I'm gonna put 6x9's facing each other there.

I am using a kicker 200 watt to push the sub. I have the sub and the 6.5's mounted, it sounds great. I had reservations about the amp, but it's plenty, had to turn the amp down. I'm gonna install the 6x9 tomorrow, and will use the amp with these. The 6.5's are just ran off the stereo.

I have changed my mind about the battery for now. I'm gonna use a battery tender(sp). I have some friends using it on their bass boat with the trolling motor, and they said it works great. I will have to report back later on this one.

Finally got it all installed. The sub sounds great! I bought some cheap 6 x 9's, and they sound good also. The Polk 6.5's are bad a$$. When I get some more money, I will order the Polk 6 x 9's. The 6 1/2's sound is unbelievable, if you ever need to replace or get some speakers, GET THESE!! I'll try to get some pictures posted.

I plan on putting the amp in the glove box, the subwoofer in the port side kick panel and the stereo remote with lcd will replace the stock stereo remote in the drivers dash. I will then move the stock drivers non LCD screen remote to the rear swim deck.

the amp will run the rear 6.5" stock clarion speakers and the subwoofer. I will upgrade the speakers with Polk ones, I have a friend who can get me a discount. I will post pictures when I am done.

Kevin...are you keeping the stock Clarion 6.5's? If so I would suggest replacing them with the Polk marine 6.5's. These go right in the existing speaker holes, easy install. I also have my stock Clarion stereo pushing these and it sounds great. I have the amp pushing the 10" and 6x9's. You wont regret this move.
On the install... I cut my hole for the sub and used fishing tape from there to get wiring from back to front, then I could reach in and get it the rest of the way to the glove box by hand. I hope to have the pictures up tonight. Let me know if I can help in any way.

1. Where did you ground the amp?

2. What size of wire did you use for both 12v and ground for the amp? 4awg?

the amp positive and negative wires go all the way to the battery with 6 gauge wire and is fused with a 50 amp Maxi Fuse.

It works really well. the amp gets hot in the glove box when parked and cranking it up so I have to open the glove box door when running the radio loud. I actually bought a marine suction cup fan that runs off the accesory power plug in the glove box and I run that when the boat is sitting on a sand bar with the music cranked.

I am very impressed with your installation. We just finished installing two additional speakers in the bow of our challenger. We used Momo/polk 6 1/2 and they really sound great. Looking at your pictures I would guess you installed an additional fuel filter with a manual valve. The filter seems like a great idea. Is the valve just for cutting fuel while replacing the filter?

We also installed a second bilge pump in the ski locker and added a second exhaust line out the hull. What is purpose of the fixture the front of the engine compartment?

I am jealous of your subwoofer. We were considering the same but thought it might be a bit much.

The valve is actually for shutting off water flow during towing. (see pinching hose while towing)

Next to it is a Groco water strainer. It actually strains water that comes from the impeller pump before it goes to the intercooler and exhaust. It keeps weeds and small rocks etc out.

Everything looks great. Did you see a performance increase with the new air intake?
