My 2006 Challenger 180 ran great this past weekend. Like a new boat. My brother (a Bombardier aviation mechanic) noted that the impeller was making an "expensive noise" while we flushed the engine. The sound is a metal on metal sound coming from the area of the impeller. This boat has always made that sound when I flush the engine and run the RPM's up as directed by the owners manual. The performance is great and I have less than fifty hours on the engine.
Is this a normal sound?
I have had the boat serviced as directed and the dealer never has seemed worried when I've watched him run up the engine.
Thanks.
"Expensive noise?"

I would have to say that I don't hear that sound in our 2008 180 Challenger. It might be worth getting a second opinion, do you have another dealer close by that could listen to the noise to see if they think differently than your current dealer?

Yah, I have that noise. I am the second owner. I heard it at the beginning. Dealer inpsected the boat and didn't note anything. Then I had an independant mechanic upgrade the impeller and install and SS wear ring and I get the SAME noise.
I also heard ppl talk about it on greenhulk and all concluded it was normal. It does sound nasty though.

Good to hear, its amazing how several hundred pounds of water pressure tends to quiet the drive system right down! Its when you don't hear that noise that you have trouble
