Sounds like a deal to me. 2 strokes aren't going away any time soon. 10 gallons an hour sounds about right.....I am new to Waverunners and I have the chance to buy a 1998 Seadoo GTS Bombardier Jet Ski 3-Seater (2-stroke) with a solid trailer. The cost is $2000. I am concerned about whether or not 2 strokes will be around anymore because I heard pollution laws are coming into effect that may hurt the 2-stroke. Also I am going to look at the Waverunner tomorrow and would like to get some advice on what I should be looking for internally in order to know that this is a solid buy. Lastly I am wondering if anyone can tell me the amount of gas a 2-stroke seadoo expends? It is a 7 gallon tank, at least that's what he said. He told me he takes it to the lake all day and still has gas left in the tank when he's done but I also heard wavreunners can expend gas up to 10 gallons an hour.
Thank you,

Watch for corrosion or anything that would say " I've been used in saltwater but my owner never, ever rinsed me off .....
Watch for excessive smoke when cranked (like a mosquito fogger)-look for oil in the bilge. Is this a 787cc?

The 98 GTS should have the 717 engine in it. I think the fuel consumption is a bit optimistic but compared to the alternative it still could be a fun boat for you. If there is any way possible please check the engine compression before you buy it. If it is not 125 PSI or above and within 10 PSI between cylinders then it probably has a short life. Also that engine has a center seal on the crankshaft, if it smokes excessively as Tiggerman mentioned then that seal is probably going bad. It is less expensive for us to put a short block in than replace the seal. Finally, look at the engine and see how much corrosion is present. If there is a lot and the compression isn't good don't buy it! You can buy an 08 GTI most anywhere for under $6,000, you'll have at least half that in the boat by the time you fix it up or more if it needs major work. By the way Waverunner is a Yamaha trademark, Jetski is a Kawasaki trademark, a Sea Doo is simply called a personal watercraft.....go figure!
