Hi everyone
I just bought a 2004 Speedster 160 with a Merc. M2 Jet drive 240HP. It is in real good condition-previous owner told me it has only had 3 tanks of fuel run through it.(Maybe B.S. but he seemed pretty honest)
I was wondering if there are different impellers available that could change performance etc. Or are there simple mods avail for the engine. I don't want to change things drastically but if there are simple things that can be done to improve performance it would be good to know.
As well is there a way to check the impeller/jet for wear etc? I get approx. 45 mph out of the boat but that is with a half tank of fuel (tank is 150Litres) and myself in it (200lbs) but I was told this boat should do upwards 50-55mph? It would be nice to get the an "M2 Operators Manual" - if anybody has one you can send me a note.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Gord

First question I have is about the model year, are you sure it isn't a 2003? 2003 was the last year that the 160 Speedster was made, in 2004 it was replaced with the 200 Speedster.
You can check Solas, http://solas.com, for a new impeller...I believe they make one for this boat. Their website is sometimes a little hard to navigate so it might be best to call them and just ask over the phone.
Definitely sounds like you have something going on with the impeller, have you been able to visually inspect it for the condition of the impeller? Our 2000 160 Speedster would easier show over 60 mph on the SeaDoo Dream-O-Meter (speedometer) so it is for sure we were getting better than 45 mph even if the speedo wasn't accurate, I don't think it was off 15 mph.
We use to be able to distribute the manual but were strictly told by Mercury not too any longer, http://seadoosportbo...arine-t944.html. Maybe you can find another member who has it and is willing to share.

I stand corrected, 2004 was the last year they made the 160 Speedster, http://www.sea-doo.c...dster/index.htm.

Thanks Kevin, gee you had me concerned when I read your first reply. I thought I got screwed over thinking I was buying an 04 and it was not. Anyway I am sure it is an 2004.
Anyway thanks for your input as far as the performance goes. I'll do a little more checking.
I do love the boat, I was shopping for a 150 Sportster but when this came up I bought it. A little more room and I am thinking it might ride a little smoother in rough waters than the 150. Probably harder on fuel but what can you do?
If any member as the Merc. M2 Jet drive operaters manual could you send me a note-it would be greatly appreciated. (gdniwa@shaw.ca)
