255 Open Scarab © Beneteau
Announced in Fort Lauderdale in October, the latest Scarab 255 Open will be internationally premiered at the upcoming Nautic boat show in Paris, France. Designed for millennials keen on extreme water sports, this new jet boat pulls out all the stops combining all the sports and leisure features of the American brand acquired by a group Beneteau in 2014.
Scarab designs and manufactures a wide range of very sporty jet boats in Michigan. Originating in the 1990s period of Baywatch lifeguards and Miami Vice detectives, the powerful look of the scarab design captures everyone's imagination. Breaking with many of the codes of leisure craft, the sex appeal of this brand is likely to spark the same wave of enthusiasm in Europe as it has in North American waters.
Thanks to the Scarab's unmatched Rotax® jet propulsion system, the jet boats have dominated the young Americans thrill-seeker market. Combining jet ski fun with the utility of a real boat, they are popular for wakeboarding and surfing, but with excellent low-speed manoeuvrability for more relaxing activities such as fishing or swimming. Apart from their unmistakeable look, Scarabs stand apart for their incredible manoeuvrability and safety, even in very shallow water.
The 255 OPEN: bigger and bolder!
With its keen design, aggressive lines and bright colours, the new Scarab 255 Open is mesmerizing. The brand's flagship proudly boasts its sassy look and festive use, while offering faultless safety. Incredibly spacious, it can carry up to 13 people and offers a variety of pleasures in each space on board. With an attractively designed stern, the boat has two sun loungers on either side of a three-seat driving station with the steering wheel at the centre. The seat arrangement in aft cockpit is entirely modular.
Easy to handle and really safe
With a very small draft and aluminium reverse gates, the 255 Open offers 360 degrees manoeuvrability and handles like a dream, particularly near the coast. The tailgate, a new ergonomic feature, is a simple drop-down gate, inspired by American pickups, providing easy access to the large retractable swim platform. This brand new concept adds to the well-known safety of the Scarab, thanks to a propeller-free stern (jet propulsion system).
Adrenaline rushes
The rider's thirst for thrills will be quenched by the 255 open, with quickly responding successive accelerations and reversing. New on a jet boat the touchscreen command centre enhances the pleasure of at the helm. Accelerating from 0 to 80 km/h (50 mph) in 12 seconds is an unforgettable experience for the driver, passengers and all surf fans. The raised wakeboard tower extends their surfing grounds.
Two versions
Another innovation in 2018, is that each Scarab jet boat model will now be available in two versions: the G series and the ID series.
Available with an ideally suited engine, a black and white exterior, a Bimini top and a wide range of additional options, the G series comes with all the essentials and an optimum level of comfort.
The identity series (ID) can be customized entirely with an unlimited number of options. The result is a boat with a unique look, level of sportiness and comfort on board. Of course, the 255 open is available in these two versions.
The sound of "Endless fun on the water" – the brand's motto across the Atlantic – will echo right along our coast! Watch out for Scarab boats at the main European boat shows in 2018
