Wondering if anyone has had a bilge pump that will not shut off? I thought the pump had shorted in the on position, as it would run continuously, so I put in a new one... same thing. There is no water in the hull, and, I even pulled the Bilge swich out and unplugged it... the pump kept running....
I'm not all that conversant with the electrics in the boat, and it will take forever to get it into the shop here...
Any help is much appreciated,
Thanks,
Rich

Our 180 Challenger did the same thing, we had to disconnect the battery so it didn't drain it. Took it to the dealer and come to find out it was a bad relay.

Thanks Kevin,
I'm headed to the shop this afternoon, and will ask them what they think... I'll use your example.
Thanks again,
Rich

Sounds good, keep us posted.
We have found that the relay is sometimes the culprit, the float switch much more so is responsible. If the boat is under warranty it should be covered, if not check out the float switch and replace it. Sometimes there is just some trash in it and a simple cleaning will solve the problem. We have found that to be true with either the electronic sensing type or the mechanical float type.

It turns out that the Utopia's don't have a relay... the pump has 3 wires... ground, battery hot, and switched...it turns out that the switched lead was shorted, and was the culprit. I really appreciate the quick responses you gave.
Thanks,
Rich

No problem, glad you were able to get to the bottom of it and get it resolved.
