Since I want to keep my boat in the water for an extended period of time, I was worried about the water seepage through the original equipment rubber flapper scupper valve. I discovered there's a SeaDoo recall giving an upgrade to a ball valve positive seal.

The scupper Kit Part # is 295500637. The campaign # for the recall is 97-1. It covers '96 & '97 Sportsters, Challengers, and Speedsters. Go to any dealer and give them the VIN number of the boat, and they'll either give you the part or install it for you (your choice), no charge.

Very good information Dave! Thanks alot for it! I wonder if a watercraft dealer would provide the kit. There is NO Seadoo sport boat dealer in the entire state of Alabama!!!!! Gahlee... The closest dealer is in Pensacola, FL. Which dealer did you contact if I can ask?

That's good news. I have wanted to replace that cheap rubber flapper since the day I bought my boat (which was the first time anybody bought that boat since I bought it new from the dealer). When they came out with the ball type I saw it and thought I should buy one and put it on mine but I never got around to it. I'm going to stop by the dealer and tell them to give me a new one. Why didn't they send me some sort of notice of recall??? I am the original owner and never moved so they should have my correct address. Hhhhmmmmm.

Be sure you have or they have your HIN.... I have yet to find southeast dealer to help out on this one...Sport Boat dealers down here (AL) are hard to come by. All the dealers listed by Seadoo as being boat dealers are either out of business, or no longer carry the boat line-up. Hey Kevin-- call that dealer in Buford and see if I can get it there......

Heh... I found a dealer 255 miles away who would do it if I trailer the boat to them. In fact, they won't do it any other way, they say they could risk losing their dealership for not performing the work themselves. Oh well. They have a point I guess.

What exactly are we talking about here? Are we talking about the main blug on the transom through to the bilge?

The 'flapper' and 'scupper' words are confusing me....

Looking at the back of your Speedster, on the far right hand side of the transom is a one way valve. The valve leads to the deck drain under the driver seat. The scupper lets water out when you are moving forward, and stops water from entering the deck when are sitting still. The rubber flaps of the original valve do leak, and from time to time, leak alot. The upgrade is to a ball type valve with a more positive seal.

No joy. Short of actually calling the dealer in Oregon, no scupper for me... Unless I'm planning a trip to Gulfport,MS in the near future. Not.

I'm fairly certain that mine doesn't have a valve at all. Water comes in when I'm stopped whenever there are waves big enough to push the water all the way through the tubing... Apprently the hole is above the water line because water never comes in when I'm sitting on smooth water.........

No, the valve is not above the water line. If you didn't have some sort of valve there, the deck would flood when you were sitting still whether you were in calm or rough water. The flaps may be deformed like mine and allow water in. Unless of course, you looked and saw nothing at the opening on the transom. In any case, this may be something you might want to look into.

Why would they not Include the 95 Speedster? I have had to replace my scupper valve lsat year and they gave me the same crappy plastic flap whiich is already leaking this year......

Don't know... contact your dealer and ask about it. I haven't had any luck yet.

I think that other SeaDoo boats from other years are also included, but they might have a different recall campaign number.

Call Eli at NW SeaDoo (503-238-2510) in Portland and tell him your Hull ID number. He can look up the number and see if there's any campaigns covering your boat.

I'm mad, or sad. I called the dealer I got my boat from and he ran my hull id number through and it is a recall. But, he said I would have to bring the boat to them and have them do the install. He was hesitant to say he would do it while I waited. He wouldn't just order me the part and let me pick that up, or mail it too me. So, is it worth trailering my boat 1 hr. each way, hoping to get it done while I wait (I bet they would make me wait at least an hour if they do do it while I wait) and then trailer it back home? There are marine stores close by that I'm sure sell the same part. Is the replacement one a Perko? Hay Tiggerman, do you have to do any type of sealant around it when you put in the new one? Anybody know of any other SeaDoo dealer that would just mail me the replacement part? I know shortly after I bought my boat one of the ignition switches started sticking and the dealer gave me a new switch under warranty and let me put it in myself. Thanks.

Still haven't had this done---- I carry a bucket instead.....
