Stereo Replacement - 97 Challenger 1800

I just happened to stumble across this forum. Good info. I have been thinking of replacing the Clarion stereo in my 97 Challenger 1800 with something more modern - CD/MP3 capability. Before I go and buy a new deck I was wondering what experiences others have had with the installation. Is it a simple plug and play install or am I into a big job i.e rewiring etc. Are the typical car decks on the market today the same physcial size to fit into the allotted space?
Thanks in advance. G.

As for the installation, you shouldn't run into anything major. And yes a aftermarket car stereo system would work, but wouldn't be marine ready. As in water resistant. I actually had a JBL player in my seadoo speedster and put a waterproof cover and it work for a summer, but my suggestion would be to get a tinted cover so the sun doesn't ruin your lcd screen on your cd player.
As for marine products high end would be Sony, Jensen, Alpine, Clarion, Then there is stuff like pyle, and boss that isn't the best but for a tight budget, they make a wide viarety of products for marine applications.
I personally installed a boss cd/mp player because it came with a wired remote that I could wire up in the back.

Thanks for the info. I was mainly concerned about having to rewire. Do you know if you can just plug the existing pre wired harness right into the radio. I havent installed a stereo into a vehicle since my '78 Camaro...boy those were there days...lol.
Thanks, G.
Good choice of forum, been a part of a bunch too, and this is where you want to be!\

You will have to rewire...... Unless you can find a plug that goes from your harness to the new one. Honestly, its not that hard to figure out to rewire, You will have a power and a constant, probably yellow and red, a ground, black, and if you just have two speakers find out the wire color coming out of them and that should be it!
