The dealer called and told me my jetboat was back from getting repaired at the factory. I told them to adjust the steering controls. The call and told me that the tech after the 1st test drive said that the factory left out some bolts and the reverse grate was not adjusted right. The dealer called back and told me that the tech had test drove it the 2nd time and fouled the plugs so he replaced them and on the 3rd try he said the motor blew!! I said what!!! I told them that I drove it the day before I gave it to them to send off to the factory for repair. The tech said it was the oil that i was running?? He said it was the wrong type( green in color) I told him that it was api-tc 2 stroke oil. He said that is why it blew?? Why didn't the other motor blow then?? no answer. The said 3,000 to fix it. I think they did something wrong and don't want to pay for it. this really sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the board man! I would be jumping up and down....
If you took it in for work other than the engines and they blew it up, they should pay. If they don't want to, see if they are a member of the Better Business Bureau. If so, contact a representative. Did you sign a work order? If you did, did you read any fine print contained in that work order? If they are truly a Seadoo dealer, contacting Seadoo and letting them know this has put a bad taste in your mouth that a Authorized Dealer would not make good on this might get some action. I know an attorney is expensive, but that is an option as well. Dealers have insurance for just such an occurance. If it was an auto dealer, I would expect no less. Sorry for your bad luck man....

That really sucks, don't let them tell you it was the oil, if it was why would that company who makes the oil be in business? If you threaten them with a legal matter and have the attorney call them, they may get scared and go ahead and fix it. You might have to fight back and forth with them and it may take a while but it will be worth it in the end...

Funny, about the lawyer part. the week end before I gave my boat to the dealer my cousine and his family road around in it at the lake and I was runnin it hard, Any way he is a lawyer and i told him what they said and he siad he would take care of it for me. I talked to STB and and a local level 2 seadoo tech which he is starting is own shop now.
both told me I was running the right seadoo oil and said they are grabbing a straws!! They both said if it was the oil why didn't the other motor lock up?? oh, before seadoo said they would fix my hull I had the dealer water test it and adjust the throtle cables. I gave them the boat running great and im going to get it back the same way. After I got it out from winter storage I tested the compression on the motors and both read 145+psi. Im just woundering if they sucked water up into the motors being that they fouled out brand new plugs??

Is your boat a Carburated model? If so, improperly adjusting the throttle cables could cause a too high air to fuel mixture, resulting a lean condition. This situation could quickly cause engine failure. I have seen this many times... (I am a 2 Stroke Snowmobile Drag Race Engine Builder)

Also, improper winter storage and a engine that is not "fogged" before storage, can cause a crank to form rust during storage, thus result in engine failure shortly after bringing out of storage... (Fogging an engine protects the internal engine parts from corrosion during storage. This is very important in a 2 stroke motor)

I did stored it the right.. STB told me the same thing about the cards. the guy at STB said I bet they probably adjusted the carbs to lean and blew the motor. The delaership did say they had to adjust some cables but didn't say which ones.

Let's see.... There are several throttle cables if it is a twin. You got the throttle cables coming fromthe control handles, and you got another set coming from the steering control. Those are for the added RPM when you have the wheel at either the left stop or the right stop.

Ok, guys I just got off the phone with my dealer and now the service manager is saying that the mech say it is (quick silver oil) which I replied what is that and they said it merc 2cycle oil. Ok sound like they are trying to make stuff up now. I ask and ask are you saying it not your fault and it's my problem, Funny the manager wouldn't say yes or no??? the service manager said we called the factory and they said they ran the boat but it was running fine?? Ok ran fine for me and the factory, sounds like the dealer is the problem!!! the manager said if you would have gotten it back it would have blown on you. I replied but it didn't, allot of what-ifs in my opinion!!

So where did they leave it with you? What is the next step?

I going to have a local seadoo guy put in a stb motor and send my impellers off to get them reworked. It's going to cost me $1500 and not
$3000 the dealer wanted!! Im having my cousen (lawyer) call them this
week and see where they stand on this problem.. I'll post after I find out
this week.

1500 is better than 3000.00.

Ok the dealer called and the mech talked to me and said that I was not suppose to use synthitec in that motor?? He said it caused the piston to detonate. Can that make a piston do that or can water in the engine make this happen? he keep on saying the oil looked to brown like quick silver oil, I said all i run is sea-doo oil !!!

work the seadoo factory did was great, looks brand new inside. they even replaced my driver side wind screen because of the cracked hinge. they replaced the caps on the throttle controls with new ones. Ok, when the dealer told me wensday that the motor detonated I told them not to pull the engine apart!!! I got it home last night and look and
well what you know the bolts had been broke away from the head. I could tell because the paint was broke around the bolt and the bolts had mark on them. I put in another post labeled (drive line) I noticed that my engine area was really dirty so I started washing it out and I noticed that the PTO cover on the blown motor was not on right so I pulled on it and it came righ off. Take a look at the seal, look how bad it is. I wonder if the pump locked up and blew motor??

My lawyer got a letter back from my dealer which states nothing about the motor failing from oil, now they are stating that is it from salt water
corrosion !!! Now they said they would talked about a discount for the repairs if I wanted to have them repair it. ya right!!! They said they would put a STB motor in it for 1800+14hr+the money for all the new gaskets.
Wow about a $1000 mark up for the same motor I can buy from the same place. Oh, I found out last night that (quick Silver) brand oil has a
2 cycle oil for sea-doo's!! sold at walmart along with sea-doo brand 2 cycle oil . both are around $6.00 a bottle. I was surprised to find out that Walmart sold Sea-doo brand oil.

Yes, it depends which Walmart you go to. We have one in an area with alot of lakes, that has a huge boating section with every type of oil along with several different style wakeboards, tubes, kneeboards, and wetsuits.

We have another Wallyworld Super Center, that doesn't have hardly anything for boaters.

I have taken my speedster to a new seadoo mech. I didn't really notice this but he pointed it out that the ex.pipe on the blown motor was gold in color. He said it got really hot!! He is taking it apart today and he said he would take pictures of it for me. Im calling the factory to get a work sheet showing what they did to my boat. The mech said it looked like the factory put in a new gas tank as well as the new wind screen,control knobs,bumper,horn,battery tray and battery hold down bracket.

I forget which boat you have... If they did put a new fuel cell in, both engines would have been out. Perhaps something wasn't put back together correctly and leaned that engine out? Just grasping here....

I have a 98 speedster and they split the hull to fix it so I would think they just droped it in?? Oh we did find a big hunk of metal in the engine area today, the mech said he would try to find out what it is off of.

Yep, if they split the hull then they just dropped it in. You think the chunk of metal is a piston dome? Maybe the dealer that you told not to take the engine apart fished it out of the cylinder(s)...

Don't know?? I found out today that when the dealers send boats back for repair at the factory that bombadier requires them to drain out all the gas and oil!! I see that the dealership added 5g of gas. I bet that the dealer didn't put any oil in and over heated the engine and locked it up!
