I notice my gas gauge always stays on 1/2 tank. How much does these usually cost to get fixed....I think this is a vaulable tool to have working...I fill my tank up every time I go out I usually ride a few hrs not sure even how long can go on a tank of gas Anyone know I have a 1997 with the two 2 cycle engines....Also how do I know how much oil I have in I have a oil light sensor not sure it it works only had the boat in water 3 times since I got it at end of last summer. I just try to keep the oil pretty full ....Any response will help Also do I suppose to cut off both gas knobs to the engines after loading up the boat or can the gas knobs stay turned on all the time

The tank sender is usually around 100- 150 USD, and can be purchased online or thru your dealer. If you are a doo it yourselfer, it can be done, but is a pain sometimes because of all the fuel lines connected to the sender. There have been threads on repairing the sender , but it's more trouble than its worth. A working fuel gauge is a good thing to have, although you can actually see the fuel level in the tank thru the open engine hatch.
The oil light is on the fuel gauge, and is actuated by a float in the oil tank. When the level gets low enough, it will bring the lamp on- telling you that you need to add oil. The floats are notorious for hanging up. A rule of thumb, when you check or add gas, look at the oil tank too- you should be able to see the level clearly enough to know if it needs oil or not.
I never shut off the fuel controls unless I was working on the fuel system, or storing the boat. It probably isn't a bad idea to shut them off when you are trailering, but not a requirement.

Maybe it's a defective baffle. Just to give you an idea, i had the fuel baffle replaced on my previous ride (2000 speedster). The damage was:
Parts-$159.95 + labor $65. It was worth it though. Last time i used the boat, I did not hear the annoying beeping sound telling me that the tank is low on fuel even though it's full tank! I hope this helps....

My baffle was also bad when I traded it in, the gauge quick working last season. I had already bought the baffle during the winter season but hadn't installed it yet. I gave the baffle to the dealer with the boat and let them know of the problem so they could go ahead to replace it before they sold it.

The baffle is going to run you $149.49 through Seadoo, 9 times out of 10 it is the baffle not the gauge. If you turn your own wrenches you can make sure it is the baffle before you replace it. The baffle will have a lead coming off it with a Pink wire and a Pick/Black wire. Using an ohms meter you should have a reading of 0 +/- .01 ohms in the empty position (float all the way down) and 89.8 +/- 0.9 ohms at a full tank (float all the way up). You have to remove the baffle to do this test correctly, but still worth doing before you sink money into a baffle. Readings should increase and decrease smoothly when moving the float up and down.

Make sure you disconnect the battery before removing any components of the fuel system, and work in a well ventilated area.

You can do the same type of check on the oil sender. That sender will have a Blue and Blue/Black wire. If you pop it out of the oil tank you can test with an Ohms meter, make sure the reservoir at the bottom of the sensor is completely drained and test it should read as an open circuit (infinity), then soak the sensor in a cup of oil (again giving the reservoir time to fill, submerged in oil it should read as a closed circuit (1 ohm Max). If there is a problem with the connection, or wire the oil light will stay on (ie, of you forget to plug it back in you will have the oil light lit)

If that stuff al checks out it might be your gauge, bad news is this part is not available from Seadoo anymore. If you do need a gauge, hunt around online, the seadoo part was 204470061.

Please see my other post and like others said, it seems your baffle is bad. I would recommend testing the baffle and then replacing it if it is the root cause.

Bought my 2000 challenger 2000, with a non functioning fuel gage, (suspect someone crossed a ground wire to the hot side/positive battery post, and wamo, she's shorted. so we just replace the fuel sender (not just the baffle insert) for $150.. everything works fine now.. Very easy to remove and install in 30 minutes., remove or losen banjo clips, slip on and off hoses, just pay attention as to which hose goes where.
