Sounds like a blast!
Twas a BLAST! We stayed at AVI Resort RV campground for $18 with full hookups. Hotel is $59-89/night. Love the $1.99 breakfast--2 eggs + big slice of ham! Place is hot, I mean 114 degrees! That was the only time that my passengers did not mind getting wet during the cruise on the river. Be cautious when cruising around coz some areas are only 2 feet deep! H20 current is too dangerous for kids. Speaking of kids, the resort has a huge gaming area for kids and nice set ups of two pools. The resort also has a private beach and gas station!
Here are some pics...

Sounds great, that does look like a hefty current! Would make trying to dock a boat a very entertaining time for someone not use to the current.
We spent almost an hour observing other boaters launch/ pickup their toys...it was entertaining alright! The resort has a ramp but the dock is about 10 feet away. I don't want to take a chance of ruining my day so I decided to launch the doo at Davis Dam, which is about 30-minute drive. Water there was much calmer and it took us 45 minutes to cruise down the river back to AVI resort. But once you get to the resort's cove, no problem, H20 is nice again. This area is definitely one of my favorite spot! By the way, launch fee($20?) is included with each camp site or hotel room charges at AVI Resort. Davis Dam Recreation park charges $14. There are two gas stations along the river between AVI Resort. I was told that there's 3 more gas stations between AVI and Lake Havasu. You can go boating until 10pm but be aware that most gas stations are only open until 5pm. Hey, if you ran out of gas, the current will just take you to Havasu!!! In one piece? Im not sure!!!!

We usually stay at the now Tropicana, and drive to Lake Mohave and Launch at Catherine's landing about $15 for a 3 day pass I think.
The river current isn't for everyone. It runs at a steady 7mph. They let out more water at night so the water level rises. . . I lost a canoe and some paddles that way. Early morning will have the lowest water level. The river is quite rocky and I one time on full plane hit a rock. . .it wasn't so bad, and I was very thankful for my 1 ft draft.
We went in October, the water was starting to get a bit cold but I think it was in the 80's.
Don Laughlin's riverside Casino has some nice kid accomodations--the place is old and in process of remodel, but it has a movie theatre and bowling alley that can be good entertainment.
I wouldn't want to launch or even go near davis dam camp in the busier months, it is litered with kids and drunks driving rented PWC's and it is always an accident waiting to happen. I nearly killed 2 ten y.o. girls who decided to turn in front of me and cut me off on their rented PWC. . .
On the river did you make it further south through Topock(sp?) Gorge??? Beatiful country if you haven't. The canyon walls have rams and you are usually pretty secluded.
Next to Don Luaghlin's Casino there is a little municpal launch ramp that is free. When we cruise the river we use that one. It has a decent water break and you can launch with out worry. Docking may seem a little rough but once you compensate for current slow and steady always wins.

Hi there neighbor! Ha-ha..you're about 40 miles from AV. Thanks for the tip! My last trip was just up to AVI resort. I was told that if I keep going I'll reach Havasu. I might try that this summer.
