In CA, boats cannot be wider than 8'6", if wider, a permit is required to tow it on the highway. I would hate to think that each time you want to take out the new boat, you'd need to get and pay for a permit with the DOT!!! That would deter sales if people have to get a permit to tow it!!!

I believe most states have a 1 or 2 year permit like we do in Virginia. As a dealer we handle the permits, its very simple. Keep in mind the trailer is 8'-6" wide so the boat is the only overwidth part of the package. As I recall the permits for 2 years cost just over $80.00 here in Virginia.Since the new 230 boats have 8'9" beam, has any one had any problems with their local Department of Transportation in trailering it?

I highly doubt this would be a problem in any state. I did have to sign a paper when purchasing the boat to acknowledge I was aware of the oversized beam...I don't plan on getting the permit unless I get pulled over by an extremely bored officer carrying a measuring tape.
