good question, air filter? Let me know too. Where is the fuel filter located and what does it look like? Is that the "automotive oil filter looking thing "on the drivers side near the engine front?Just purchased a 2001 challenger 2000, merc m2 240efi (first boat ever, love it). changed the plugs, fuel filters, replaced the hdro surge grate with a fixed aluminum one, lowerered the trim plate and had the oil changed. (All suggested per this and other Seadoo forums)

Correct, that is the water seperating fuel filter. There is also another in-line fuel filter in the other side (port) side of the engine. Follow the fuel line from the fuel tank, this filter is in front of the fuel pump (the fuel line is clamped on one end of the filter and the other end is screwed into the fuel pump.) It's about 3 inches long, and about twice the diamiter of the fuel line. Hope this helps!good question, air filter? Let me know too. Where is the fuel filter located and what does it look like? Can't hurt to change both the filters every season or two they are cheap enough, for that peace of mind and insurance. The water seperating filter that looks loke a car oil filter was about $15-$20 and the in line filter was $8.00 (part number 35-889615). hope this helps! When and how often does the "in line fuel filter" need to br replace? Cost?

Got a response to this question on another jet boat site. http://www.network54.com/Forum/143168/ "There is no air filter on the motor, if you look behind the starter towards the rear of the engine or behind the fuel pump you can just see the intake butterflies" i'm gonna check this out this weekend.Just purchased a 2001 challenger 2000, merc m2 240efi (first boat ever, love it). changed the plugs, fuel filters, replaced the hdro surge grate with a fixed aluminum one, lowerered the trim plate and had the oil changed. Hey ,
We just purchased a 2001 Challenger 2000 also. We love it!! Never owned a power boat before so we are on a steep learning curve. Thanks for your timely question. We find that we need to change our fuel filter and were struggling because it apparently is not the normal Mercury fuel filter. Does anyone know why there is a wire on the bottom of the fuel filter (this was unexpected)?

the wire is for the water separator warning alarm; should you forget to change your filter on time.Hey ,
