The speedo on my '05 Sportster 4-TEC reads about 5 mph low in the range between 20 and 30 mph. I know this by having checked the speedo reading several times against a GPS.
Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the speedo, either on the instrument itself or possibly on the little paddle-wheel sender unit?
Thanks --
Does the speedo adjust?

Magnetic speedo drive is a very simple unit which could be at fault but very very doubtful. The speedo on my '05 Sportster 4-TEC reads about 5 mph low in the range between 20 and 30 mph. I know this by having checked the speedo reading several times against a GPS.

I do not think there is any way of adjusting this unit.
Check the cable connections as a bad connection can cause slow/eratic speed readings.
There is an adjustment screw for 0mph.
Depending on your model it may be accessed from a small rubber plug in the rear of the speedo or inside on the motherboard.
Adjustment must be made with engine running so the speedo is powered up.
When U are finished screwing around a small dab of her finger nail polish to re-secure the screw against movement.
Note: speedo is NOT designed to be taken apart but it is possible.
Work very slowly around the metal lip of the face cover.
Note also that putting it all back togeather is almost as hard.
Although I was 99% successful at opening and closing this can of worms I was not able to rescue my dead speedo and bought a new one from the nice people at parkeryamaha.

Cheap and cheerful: use her nail polish to make nice marks on the face plate showing correct values. :-)
