Challenger 1800 1998 model.
Fuel gauge stop working during first run this year.
How do I check the fuel gauge & fuel tank senor ?
Three wires to fuel tank show no continuity through any combination.
Voltage a the meter --purple 11.8v, pink & pink-blk 5.7 & drops to 4.9.

Which meter wires can I use the check operation & what voltage.
Does any one have a schematic ?

talked to a dealer & confirmed that 99.9% of the problems are with the sensor.
What he did is that the rubber hose connections could be in different locations, but they are marked.

He also said many times the hoese can be pulled right off with the clamp & then put back on.

my fuel sender has 4 hose connections on top and a 3 wire connector (not 2 wire) so according to one post --problem solving we should jump the pink with the pink/black wire to check if the fuel gauge work,,, if the gauge work then that suggest the sender is the problem,,is that correct?
the post from kevin,addresses the 4 hoses and I know that at least two of the 4 slip on connectors on the top of the sender unit are labeled,,but which hose to goes to which (from where to where) so we know the hoses are not crossed, Kevin's dealer person suggest that miss matching the hose connections can cause the sender not to work properly.

II jumped the piink wire to the pink/black strip wire using a test light (alligator clip to one and ice pick nose/strobe to the other wire ) and the gauge registered full or near full. So according to this test, the gauge does work,,, so my poblem could very well be the sender unit or the 4 noses on top are not connected correctly

In the end, I put in a new sensor/sender at a cost of $150,,its easy to do,just unclip the electrical, remove or loosen 3 banjo fastners, pull the sensor out of the tank,remove the 4 hose (besure you know which is connected to which stem, they are labled on the side of the sender) and reverse the order to put in the new one.

Most Sea Doo's Fuel Gauges work as follows:
Tank Sender provides a resistance between approximately 0 ohms (full tank) and 90 ohms (near empty tank) to the guage. So if you disconnect the two wire connector from the tank sender, you can perform several tests:
1 - using a digital ohm meter, connect meter leads to the sender part of the connector. If you get anything higher than 100 ohms, the sender is bad (most common problem). I have fixed several of these, but believe me it is almost not worth it.
2- using a varable 100 ohm resistor (potentiometer) otherwise known as an old volume control from an old radio, etc. (Try to find one near 100 ohms). You will connect this to the boat's side of the two wire connector. Now activate your boat's electrical system by pressing the start button (will be active for approx 30 seconds), if your fuel gauge is good, you will be able to move the needle by turning the pot.... really nifty!!
I actually made a gauge tester for a sea doo mechanic by soldering a spare connector he had to a potentiometer.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I have a 2000 Seadoo Challenger 2000, and everything has worked excellent until yesterday. The first time out for this season and the boat started right up first try and seemed to be running great. All my gauges were working, until after about 5 minutes or so of running I noticed that my fuel gauge was dead. I have been trying to diagnose it all day, but am stumped. I tried to use a piece of wire to jump the pink/black wire to the pink wire but my gauge did not do anything. When I first turn the key to the "on" position I get a beep and the red light lights up quick on the fuel gauge, but the needle does not move at all. I am not sure if I am jumping the wires at the right point or not, but I would greatly appreciate any help that you can offer.

I replaced the float on mine this winter,$14.95 works fine now. They tend to lose the magnets, was missing 1 of 4,wouldn`t read fuel level.

Mine just died too. That float seems to be the cheapest way to start. Do you have a part number by chance?

got mine off of e-bay,key word -seadoo parts/very easy to fix.I believe you`ll have to remove ski pylon [mine is the 14.5] No big deal.Sending unit is embossed with what line gos where also I still had seadoo clamps,I don`t reuse them ,a good old Gates style clamp at this point.They[hoses] will pull straight up and off,but replace clamps,I`m a little worried about sucking air also the same Gates style clamps are cheap.Seadoo Fuel Tank Baffle Float Sending Unit Repair

I'm having no luck with this fuel gauge problem. I pulled the sending unit out, and I do get a resistance reading, but its not what it is supposed to be. The thing that has me most confused is that when I jumped the pink and pink/black wire together my fuel gauge does not move at all. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, but I was hoping to be able to eliminate the gauge being faulty first before I just start throwing parts at it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

First I replaced the float and it did not fix. Next I tried a new gauge. Finally I did surgery on my baffle and soldered the blown fuse on the internal circuitboard. I took the boat out yesterday and it works for the first time since I have owned the boat! Does anyone know which wire I need to fuse externally and what size fuse to use?
