Could be several things. Have you tried charging the battery? It could be the battery is to low to turn over. Also, check your fuses. (I'm sure you checked to make sure you have fuel, right?) It also could be a fouled spark plugs. If all else fails, buy a new set of three spark plugs and change them out. For less than $10 it could be an easy fix.I just purchased a 2004 Sportster. I've taken it out about 6 times. The other day I was about 5 minutes out and I heard a continuous beep. I stopped and shut off the motor. The beeping continued. I tried to restart, it wouldn't. I had to get towed back home. After I washed it down, I tried again to start it. whenever I turn the battery on, it has a continuous beep, and the motor won't even try to start. The manual talks about overheating. The motors cold.

Well, last Saturday (not wanting to take it to the dealer) I had decided that a continuous beep was (according to the manual) a overheating problem. Knowing that the motor was not hot after sitting for a week. I thought the temperature sensor was maybe bad. ($63 over the internet). Well, first I disconnected the wire to the sensor to see if the beeping would stop. It did. Then I tried to start it without the wire connected. It started great. I reconnected the sensor, and it started back up. I took it out (staying very close to shore) for about 3 hours, did some wakeboarding, it ran like a top. Maybe disconnecting the senor reset the codes? I don't know. It runs fine now, but I don't know what to expect next. I'm not sure it's solved. But it is for now.Could be several things. I have a 4 tec 2003 that didn't want to start also ; it started with a problem with the DESS key and then a check engine light came on.
Brought it to the dealer who diagnosed a defective ECM and a dess key problem . This ECM is sold for $1000 in Canada ; I think he is a thief because you can buy it $ 569 at Babbit's sport.
Will have the boat Thursday June 21th and will tell you how it runs ?
