Thanks. I was assuming 2" and figured I need to check. It would be an 05-07 sportster 15 foot type boat. I figure it is 2" but some positive confirmation would be appreciated.

the only positive confirmation would be to look at the trailer coupling and see what size is stamped on it. if it will help my 05 sportster is 15 ft and has a 2 " coupling.

The only trailer couplers that use 1 7/8" balls nowadays are those small utility type trailers. You know - the ones that are 6 to 8 feet long and have stake-bed sides. Not sure if it's a DOT requirement, but you'd be hard pressed to find a boat trailer coupler with less than a 2" ball requirement.
And if you're looking for a recommendation, try an QMC hitch ball which is 100% Stainless Steel. Not only will it always look good due to no rust, it won't ever corrode which means no seized nut.

Even my single ski trailer uses a 2" coupler.
1997 Seadoo XP 800 (sorry, at least it is a DOO!!!)
