Welcome first off, JRS!
Not many maintenance issues regarding the Merc 240 that I'm aware of, but then again, I'm a Rotax fan. Kevin can chime in on this one, as he has the CLEANEST 2000 Speedster I've ever seen/ridden in.
Cover, tops are found most anywhere that sells Doo parts. West Marine can hook you up with a bimini to fit. And as always, check out eBay too. You'll find many NOS parts there.

I'll help as much as I can. I have a 1999 speedster SK with twin 85hp. Rotax and I love it. haven't heard too much about the Merc. motor as far as reliability or maint. just that parts for them are expensive when compared to the Rotax engines. I picked up my 99 for around $6000 so the price seems high to me but the Merc boats seem to fetch more. I bough my cover on ebay. It is a SurLast cover and I love it. Goes on by myself in 5 minutes with no fuss. They aren't cheap, like $350 if I remember right but worth every penny in ease of putting on and taking off. I see bimini tops on ebay also quite a bit with a few deals to be had. My advise is search this site and others about the reliability of it before you decide to purchase.for around $9K .. no cover or bimini top..

JRS,
I will reiterate the email I sent you and what tiggerman says, this is fantastic boat as long the one you are looking at as been well maintained and taken care of. I was very fortunate to find a 2000 Speedster in 2003 that was virtually unused and very well maintained. This is the third season we have had the boat and it has been running great for us since the day we bought it. Just make sure you check everything over thoroughly on the boat and make sure it is what you want....other than those things you should be good to go. I am sure you won't be disappointed if you decide to buy the boat, it is a rocket coming out of the hole and at WOT!

I installed a GPS on it and the best top speed I could get was 56.5 mph but the conditions were great, since I haven't been able to reach that again just a few shy. I lucked out on my purchase since like Kevin mine was in premo shape and had alot of extras. (carpet, binini,4 seadoo life jackets, seadoo skis, tube, custom cover, paddle, depth guage, weird front cover(not the full bow one))
I'm slacking this year since yesterday was my first timeout -- Been motorcycle riding alot this year.
Well I take it you should have it by now so post up

Andy
