reverse not working?

I've read a few threads about reverse on seadoo jetboats, I have a speedster and I experience no reverse at all, no matter how fast the engines are running. Is this normal? The boat does not move at all...
Thanks,
Iggy

the gate looks to be in the correct position, what I mean is that the boat does not move backwards when I engage reverse, I've read that reverse is not very powerful on seadoo jetboats but in my case it doesn't move at all...next time the baot is out of water check that when you engage reverse the gate or clam shell is covering the nozel - its unusual that if the pump is running and you are using the throttle you should go somewhere as its only the position of the clam shell that dictates forward or reverse - something sounds a miss?

My Challenger 180 will back with lots of force. You must have a problem with the gate not covering the jet.Hi!

yes - in forward it up and out of the way - in neutral its half way covering the nozzle - hence why some peoples boats go slightly forward or reverse depending on the clam shell pos in neutral - and in reverse it completely covers the nozzle forcing the jet back under the boat - (or slightly more sideways and back)so does my speedster. When you move it from neutral to revese does the clam move?

Have you had the buckets off ? The 97 had ports on the ends of them, and the 2 on the inside were blocked with small metal plates. Sometimes if the buckets were removed they could have been swapped- with the plates on the outside ends- reducing reverse thrust some. My ex-97 Speedster never had alot of reverse thrust- ever....so no one is having problems with the reverse? My speedstrer is from 96, could it be that they changed the construction after that?

I realize this topic is extremely old! However I just bought a 96 speedster with this problem. Did anyone resolve it?
