I have a rave valve that has slowly leaked oil for the year I've had the boat. Now the engine starts very hard, and runs terrible. Sometimes it will hit good RPM's but most of the time it runs 4-5K. The rave valve started leaking considerably more at the same time I started having engine trouble. What does the rave valve do, and can I replace it myself? I assume this isn't a coinsidence???
Any advise would be great.
THANKS!

Well, I've done some reading and a little exploration. I learned the purpose of the rave valve and also found the bellow is shot. I ordered a new one, but from my reading, I'm worried this might not be the whole problem. I'm having considerable engine trouble, and it sounds like this valve wouldn't have that much effect.I have a rave valve that has slowly leaked oil for the year I've had the boat. I'll get it fixed and see. Big weekend is fast approaching, what do you guys think?
Thanks.

The effect of the rave valve would come into effect from 4-5k rpm so in that sense it could be related. But your problem might sound a little heavier.
Have you pulled out the valve to see if it is intact. (they broke both at stem and at the flat end on my 787 engine)
PS! where did you buy your bellow, I live in Norway, where it is impossible to get parts. So I need a good cheap dealer to order from.
