I have no advice to give but if you figure it out please post the results. I'll be doing that to my 2003 Islandia later this summer. (Too many other projects ahead of it right now.Does anyone have experience in installing a GPS/Fishfinder. I just purchased a Humminbird 595c, and plan on placing the unit on the dash in front of the windshield. The transducer is a Transom mount device (or through the hull). Just wondering if anyone has any advice before I attempt this feat. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok...Im back....First time on in a while and I see this Fish Finder post. Yes, I just popped my hummingbird on my 2004 Utopia. First, start cussing.......because you will.Does anyone have experience in installing a GPS/Fishfinder. I just purchased a Humminbird 595c, and plan on placing the unit on the dash in front of the windshield. The transducer is a Transom mount device (or through the hull). Just wondering if anyone has any advice before I attempt this feat. Any help would be appreciated.
I put the transducer down in front of the engine (about halfway in the middle of the boat.......yes, so it could shoot thru the hull. Second......get your skinny kid or the neighbor's. Iffn yer chunky........just drink a beer and think about doing it.....One has to be a tad bit skinny to weasle their way down there. I ended up taking the bench seat off and the storage below it........got in there ok.
The unit itself - (here is where the pain in the rumpuss was. I put the unit just right of the dash. ,,,,,,,,the kicker is, either 1) have a skinny arm or grab that kid again.......if there is a skinny arm available.....remove the cup holder and snake yer arm throught there to get the cable that you fished through while you were under the back seat. Speakin of snakes - I do some rattlesnake huntin down chonder..........those 3 ft or 4 ft snake grabbers can be used also to grab that cable. If you need to pull off the dash.........start cussing again, come back tomorrow, because its an all day affair if you never been there before.....its a typical murphy's law thing....but wow, you learn.
OK....so now we have the transducer doohickie mounted.......the cable is pulled up by the cup holder by the dash....the mount is mounted......yer happy as heck. wait a minute skippy......before you start banging on dashes and switches because you dont know where to wire to....look at those light switches really close........you can pull them off and wire into the posts........two choices here.....go to the fuses....(cuss more) or run them to the running light switch.....boom...done.
Turn on the running lights.....boom...yer fishfinder is on......works great.
I owe a few pics....I have the tower on, the wireless remote control 5millioncandle power lights (2), a fish finder......and demmitt........I left the neighbor kid's arm in the cupholder. Sucked up another shreaded water bottle...grrrrrr.
Actually - go slow.....look at everything ........ in hindsight, I could have done it in 2 hours, I was just stupid and didn't think it through.....
Saw some boners two weeks ago....a guy and his kid goes and rents a jet ski......they go across the cove o a park. They pick up the daughter and the Mom.....*****NOTE****** Mom and Daughter do not have life jackets on.....Dad gooses it, it dumps......3 people pulled out, two with jackets, and the daughter. Their Mom was found an hour later.......Dead.......On Mothers Day......ya'll be careful out chonder.
