I just picked up my Speedster 200, and everything worked fine at the dealership, (the normal 2 beeps when the DESS cap is put on) but when we got it home, and put the DESS cap on the post, I got 3 long beeps and then 4 short beeps. The 4 short beeps kept repeating. The shifter was in neutral, and the engines would still start.
I don't see this code in the troubleshooting guide in my manual, so I wondered if somebody could tell me what it means.

I have noticed this also on my Speedster 200. I assume that the 2 x 2 short beeps are the OK to start the engines, although on our last boat, 1997 Challenger 1800 w/twin 110, it would just beep twice for both engines. I have no idea what the long beeps are for, but they sure are loud and annoying. I will ask my dealer when I take it in for the 10 hr. check.

it has been my experience that when this happens (4 short beeps) you should unplug the dess and engage it again. my wife found this problem usually when i was sitting on a tube about 30 feet away. to solve we had a pratice session, with just playing with what worked when putting the dess on and what did not. hope this helps.

I also just bought a speedster 200 and had the same problem. The problem was actually me. The beeps that you are hearing mean the cap is not on good. I would put my cap on and keep moving the shifter and could never get it to start until I unplugged and plugged the lanyard back in. That was my first three times out until I found out what the beeps meant. Take your lanyard and push it very firmly and quickly. After I started doing that I have never had a problem again. I was ready to take it back to the dealer until I found out what the beeps meant. I just started pushing it on quickly and firmly and everything is great now. Hope this helps. I also just replaced my m255 with an m455 and put a Clarion remote with the LCD in the drivers cupholder. Perfect fit. Happy Boating Kev

When I bought the remote I actually thought it was the same size as the non LCD and would fit in the dash. The Lcd is a lot bigger. I didn't want to drill anywhere on the boat yet, so I thought I would try the cupholder. I didn't know it would fit that well. I drilled a hole in the bottom of the cupholder for the wires. There are also two small bolts on the back for mounting but were way too short to make it through the bottom of the cupholder. I just extended these by taking a hose clamp and clamping a bigger bolt onto the smaller one. I then drilled a small hole in the bottom of the cupholder for the bolt. I then reached under the bottom to put the nut on it and tighten it down. Now I can take it out if I need to, and always just replace the cupholder if I don't want it anymore. It does make things a lot easier though.

Now I have a 2 month old Clarion M255. Anybody interested in purchasing it.
