Just wanted to give a little run down to my installation of a fixed base VHF radio. The unit I chose was a Uniden Oceanus as you can see here.

As many of you know, Sea-Doo's are NOT known for very many flat surfaces so it was a bit tricky finding one to accomodate my antenna mount. The mount I used is a so-called ratchet unit. To the right of the mount is the co-ax feed-through.

This is what it looks like in the up position.

And here's what it looks like laid down when trailering or when a nasty storm comes up. These things make a very good lightning rod. Keep that in mind should a storm come up. The antenna I used is a Shakespear Galaxy 48".

Since I knew I was going to need power for both the AM/FM/CD radio and the VHF radio, I decided to install a fuse panel. This allows me to use common automotive style fuses and makes hooking up easier. You'll also notice that I'm using a Shakespear splitter that allows me to use the VHF antenna for both the AM/FM/CD radio and the VHF radio.

This shows the wiring for both the AM/FM/CD radio and the VHF radio. I drilled a hole for the power and co-ax using a Uni-Bit or step drill. These things are pricy as hell, but man do they ever do the job when drilling large diameter holes in fiberglass or plastic. And they make a very clean hole. I used a grommet to prevent chaffing.

Here's what the wiring looks like where it comes out. The four holes you see on the underside are the holes for VHF radio's mounting bracket.

And here's what it looks like with the VHF in place. The radio has a waterproof power connector so removing the radio from the boat is a snap. Just disconnect the power, undo the co-ax, loosen the two knobs, and it's out of there.
Oh - and yes, I know my boat is dirty.
