Hello,
I recently acquired a 97 Speedster is really good shape. Previous owner said wear rings had 3 trips on it and it ran great (seemed like an honest guy but who knows -- they def look new and props seem decent) there is fresh RTV on the pumps and you can tell the left side engine was out of the boat most likely in the last couple of years.
Took it out and took a little longer than expected to get on plane .. 2 people and a full tank -- about 7-9 seconds. I drove this same boat years ago and remember it being much faster. Top end seemed good @ about 50-52. So I just wrote it off as having 2 fat guys and a lot of fuel and figured it would be faster with just me in it and less gas. As the day went on it didn't get better and felt like it was struggling to get out of the hole even more.
The right engine stalled and I didn't know it and went to take off with only the left side running, when I put the throttle to it, it just rev'd to the moon and the boat wouldn't move at all. I have to use the right side to get the boat moving. Once you get to about 25-30 it moves pretty good thru the top speed.
So I've done the reading on the cavitation issues of these boats, and have been looking over everything (no one close to my place will even work on these older sea doo boats) and everything seems fine. So I am looking for some things I can check on my own to try and figure out what the issue is.
The bellows -- It was recommended that I try to loosen the clamps and put some pressure on it then re-tighten -- looking at them am I supposed to push the part towards the back end of the boat?
Wear Rings -- Is it possible that even tho it looks legit that still may be the problem?
I looked under the intakes and the plastic covers look brand new and clear of any junk -- pumps look sealed up, however there was a fair amount of water in the engine bay after about 3 hours of playing around and parking on a beach. My Bilge pump is not pumping out water.. so I have to fix that which I can handle.. but this cavitation on one side has me stumped.
thanks for any input!
