my battery charger / maintainer failed and boiled the battery. In the market for a new battery and a charger / maintainer. I don't pull the battery out - should I? It wouldn't have made a difference since the charger failed to go from charge to maintain.

I always remove my batteries for winter storage. I keep them in the basement. Preferably on a work bench, and I have my battery charger set to trickle charge. Or about 2 amps.
