Or at least at 50 I feel old after seeing all of the young people on jet skis all day.
Just got an excellent deal on my 06 Sportster 150/ 215. Drove a long ways to pick it up and after an hour of testing on the lake felt it was a great deal.
Took it out today on the lake about 30 miles away Lake Mitchelle and we had a blast. 3 hours and 3/4 tank of fuel later.
Only problem was at the boat ramp when returning. This is my first PWC ever. I have had larger fishing boats with outboard or IO motors but never a jet ski or anything like this jet boat.
We arrived at the ramp which is a double ramp. There is also a houseboat ramp next to the double ramp. Two inconsiderate people just got their boat out and ready to go. I seen them from about 500 yards unloading and crept in to be able to line myself up with the dock. Instead of departing they stood on the dock and talked for the 10 minutes it took me to feather my way.
The wife and I and my two baby boys decided shed jump on the dock and tie us up to the non ramp side.
As soon as she tie us up the inconsiderate boaters pulled away, so then we had to go back around.
Got the truck, backed the trailer in to where my back wheels were 1/2 sunk just like my larger boats. The problem was that with all of the boats around the wakes were making it hard to control, so I backed her up and made a run for it and got it loaded.
I understand feathering from N to Forward since N and no power was not strong enough with the wakes. However even at a good speed the Sportster did not get the bow up over the rollers. Maybe I will have to back the trailer in deeper next time. With 4WD it won't be a problem.
Do those Cobra Jet devices work as advertised with the steering control or should I just continue and find my own way? I was able to pull the boat up but it is about 1/2" off the bow roller. I don't want to use it like this because the boat does bounce a little and I don't want to damage it!
I welcome your input.
TIA
